Show and Tell from the August Spinning guild

Spinning Guild Show and Tell is a joint effort with many of you bringing items to show, Jan taking notes, Dawn providing the camera and getting the pictures to me.  Then after the fact Jan writes up a nice presentation of all of your things and sends it to me and I get that together with the pictures and send the whole package out to you by way of this blog.  Things were running like a well oiled machine until a couple of months ago when I failed to follow through.  This is my attempt to get back on track.  I hope that you enjoy!

This is Donna's Weekend Shawl, knit using merino/tencel yarn
Jan's Annis Shawlette, knit using Foster Farm Wensleydale yarn that she dyed.
Melissa collection of hand spun skeins!
Dawns crocheted bowl.  She is teaching a class on how to make this at the shop on Sept. 17

Many of the people who came to the Spinning Guild last month were still busy with projects and had few finished items..  I for one can't wait to see this months things.!!

Summer shearing

Its time to shear the Blue Faced Leicester and the Wensleydale sheep.  I have arranged with Gwen to shear around 30 sheep.  Nine of them will be this years lambs, the rest will be the BFL/ Wensleydale crosses and Romneys that have fleeces so nice I don't dare leave them on any longer.   I have a 3 black lambs and 6 white lambs that will be shorn.  These will be premium fleeces.  Our first lamb fleeces from Wendell our Wensleydale ram.

Friday, July 1st.  in the morning.  If your interested, come on out...its always fun to see the sheep shorn!!

If your interested in a fleece, speak up, I will be offering them to hand spinners first!!

Spinning Guild Highlights

May  Show and Tell

Lynn J. brought many inspiring projects to show.  She had knit some knitted/beaded necklaces  some for herself and other for gifts.  They were an assortment of colors and make wonderful gifts.  She showed a small knitted/beaded bag that will be a wedding gift for a coworker-one of the necklaces will be the treasure inside!  Berrocco cotton  from Carole’s shop was knitted up into a lovely sweater in pink and white to wear to the coworkers wedding-it was being embellished with beads down the front to add special sparkle.  Lynn plans to sew a long skirt to complete the outfit in a matching fabric .
Handwoven  fabric done in oranges and other colors was shown next- this will be sewn into a shirt for her husband .  What talent!!

Betsy showed dyed sock yarn from a class she took at Carole’s.  She thought she used too much dye in the project admitting that she didn’t follow instructions, but the results were lovely!
She was working on a “mystery Shawl” on Ravelry where the directions were posted weekly knit in a cotton/cormo blend.

Betty Jean had a lovely alpaca/merino wrap jacket that she modeled.  It was in a nice shade of blue and fit nicely.  She was working on a top down sweater in a silk blend with cap sleeves.

Karen had finished a pair of socks using Cherry Tree Hill yarn in the color Birch.

Dawn was spinning her angora pink/wool blend.  A friend in her Happy Hookers group of crocheters  spoke up for it before it was done.  She wants to make a shawl with it.  She had a mystery grey blend and also an acrylic shawl to use up some of her stash.

Meg showed us a knitted merino/silk scarf-soft and lovely!

Trish was knitting summer socks in a corn fiber/elastic blend to try something new.

Carole was also working on the Raverlry “mystery” shawl in a merino/silk lace weight yarn.

I knit a helix scarf using a green/grey  merino handspun.  I also started another helix scarf using the Great Adirondack yarn that Carole had in vibrant colors with quick color changes.  It is a wonderful yarn to work with!

Happy spinning and knitting-see you next month!

The latest addition to the Foster Farm..."Lucy"  was a guest at the guild last month!!

We can not trust technology!

All of the tech stuff is great if it works!!  I went prepared to write a blog every day.  I had the cameras, the dodad to get the pictures to the laptop, and the laptop.  Sadly the charger to the laptop died.  After the first night the posting was over.  I will try to recap, but not working at night led to more time having fun and I'm still tired and a little fuzzy!!

Saturday morning was the sheep show.  The day started with White Wool Long class in ring 2.  We had two yearling ewes for that class.

It was a class of 17.  The sheep are wild!!  I never intended to show these sheep, but when the Romneys fleeces were to short to go and the sheep to shawl team needed a sheep, I made the decision to take them.  Good decision!!

We placed 4th and 2nd!!... and 1st place pair!!...

and reserve Champion Ewe!!

Never in my wildest dreams did I think of this!!

This is one for the books!!

The afternoon show was the Natural Colored sheep...stay tuned

We ARE HERE!!

What a great drive it was today.  The sun was shining and the leaves have popped down here.

For the first time I was the passenger.  Liz was such a great driver, both forward and reverse!!  I am afraid that I may be losing my intern.  Backing up the trailer was the last thing that she needed to accomplish, and now she has!!

The sheep are unloaded and happy to be in Maryland!!  Thanks to all of our helpers!!

Stay tuned for news from Brown Betty Farm and Foster Sheep Farm!!
